Process-Oriented Psychotherapy

Authentic Routine

SMT’s temporary goal of the treatment is to create The Authentic Routine or personal rituals after deconstructing vicious stories, which prevent a client from experiencing raw aliveness of emotion and sensation. Authentic Routines helps clients to constantly integrate disowned emotions and bodily sensations because the process of the creation is based on sense-full motivation, not avoidance technique or procrastination strategy of being responsible for own emotion and sensation.

Maintenance Check-in for re-evaluation

After creating the Authentic Routine, treatment outcome starts to rely on client’s motivation and their daily practice outside of the therapy sessions. Therapist’s role is to help clients to be aware their hindrance and resistance to discipline themselves to implement and practice self-created Authentic Routines. Even though clients succeed implementation of Authentic Routines, a therapist helps to evaluate the effectiveness of current routines. The implementation and creation of Authentic Routines are open and never-ending process same as our human growth. The Generic Check-in occurs every two weeks to four weeks to re-evaluate the effectiveness of the Authentic Routine and motivation of clients.

The SMART is a combination of symptomatic therapy and etiological treatment. Especially, treatment for sensation level brings deeper etiological behavioral change for trauma and dependency symptoms in both substance and interpersonal relationship. Thoughts/behavior and emotional level of treatment can function as an immediate de-escalation of presenting symptoms. Accurate assessment of client level and phase enable therapists to offer matching treatment and helps to build secure therapeutic rapport with a client. The SMART program requires only three to six sessions as an initial treatment. The therapy session is 50 minutes and it occurs no more than once a week. The session can be extended more than 50 minutes but will not exceed more than two hours. Maintenance-check in and sessions after the establishment of rapport can be 30 minutes session depends on client’s need and situation. The regular frequency of a session is once a week and second treatment phase after de-escalation of presenting symptoms is once every two weeks. Maintenance check-in occurs once every month but it varied by the client’s needs and level of symptoms. Some of the clients show an immediate change of behavior right after the first session when the therapy goes through all three domains, thoughts, emotions, and sensations. The gold of the first phase of the treatment is to reach the sensation level of the treatment after thoughts and emotions. The therapy length will be determined by the client ability to experience sensation level of mind. The sessions will be shorter if the client is more comfortable to treat sensation level but it takes longer if the client shows a resistance and reasoning to not go to sensation level of the treatment. The SMART program has been treating mental disorders, PTSD, Domestic Violence, Substance Abuse, Felony probation, couple and multi-generational family relationship as well as neurologic symptoms, such as epilepsy.

The frequency of sessions.

The SMART program offers at a minimum of 6 sessions. The client has a right to terminate sessions when they identify that initial presenting issue is completely treated. The session frequency will be determined when we design the treatment plan.
