Koji Zen Concert

Sound Dedication at Hakubai Temple

Aug 1st, (Wed), 2018, Boulder, CO, 6pm,

Gate Open 5:30 pm

Welcome to The Sound of Contemplation: An Evening with Hiroki Okano from Japan.

Introduction:

We are a group of healers and artists invested in creating environments of sound conducive towards deep relaxation, contemplation, and healing. It is our distinct honor, pleasure, and privilege to offer an opportunity to enter into a ceremonial concert experience that is completely unique and will most assuredly impact the listener long after the instruments have faded.

The Location:

This concert will be hosted at Hakubai Temple (https://www.hakubai.org/), a Zen temple nestled in the foothills of Boulder, Colorado. This temple has a rich history of deep connection in the Boulder community and is devoted to Zen practice, community development, and outreach. Hakubai is designed to be a powerful environment dedicated to creating a more compassionate and contemplative world. Martin Mosiko, the abbot, is a world renowned master of Zen gardening, so a more beautiful venue for contemplative sound would be hard to find!

The Artist:

Hiroki Okano is a world renowned ambient musician from Japan, who expresses his esoteric and poignant style through the vehicle of Japanese flute. He has appeared in television, movies, and has guest played on countless works. His self professed life work is bringing contemplative sound to sacred spaces all over the world. He has performed in many of these spaces, ranging from UNESCO World Heritage Sites to famous temples and shrines. He has also done extensive humanitarian work and logistical work for such festivals as the RIMPA festival in Kyoto, The Nursery Festival in Kagawa, and he was also the musical director for the award winning film "Peace Nippon".

This concert will be centered around sound as contemplative practice, seeking to foster a deeply meditative and holistic environment with sound being the object of meditation. We will all enter into ceremonial space together and create a group mind that is dedicated to taking in the contemplative and healing sound being produced. In addition, guests will also be honored with a "Shojin" meal. A traditional Japanese Monastic meal that is prepared in accordance with the cycle of the year and the seasons.

We look forward to enacting a beautiful, contemplative sonic experience with you in a co-creative process that is sure to enliven your hearts and minds.
